Shower doors are generally categorized by how they are attached to the wall or supporting glass panels. Most shower doors are hinged, but there are other options based on your desired look and needs.

Pivot Shower Doors

Pivot shower doors open similarly to hinged doors, but they are only attached with pivots at the top and bottom of the door so there are no hinges in the middle.

By-pass/ Sliding Shower Doors

By-pass shower doors are doors that slide. This can be a good choice for bathtub doors and tub-to-shower conversions where there is enough room for the door to slide. This design is ideal for long, skinny bathrooms.

Neo-Angle Shower Doors

Neo-angled shower doors are an option for corner showers. This design includes a glass panel extending from both supporting walls and a shower door placed at a 45-degree angle. This is a better option for larger showers because some of the shower area is compromised for more space outside of the shower.

Frameless shower enclosures feature a full glass design anchored to the floor and walls. Quality installation of a frameless shower is crucial to ensure the glass is structurally sound for years.

Semi-Framed Shower Enclosures

Semi-framed showers feature glass panels supported in a frame with a non-framed glass door. This results in the frame “cutting up” the appearance of the bathroom and shower.

While these are less expensive for stock sizes, custom sizes require metal fabrication and can end up costing as much as a frameless shower.
